SAVE America Act
What does the SAVE America Act do?
HR 7296 is a House bill sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX). This bill would require every person registering to vote in a federal election to hand over a document proving U.S. citizenship — a REAL ID-compliant card showing citizenship, a passport, a military ID with a service record showing U.S. birth, or a government photo ID paired with a birth certificate, adoption decree, consular birth report, or naturalization certificate. It also requires every voter in a federal election to show a photo ID that says on its front that the holder is a U.S. citizen, and it deletes the National Voter Registration Act exemption that has let some states out of the Act's registration procedures.
