“Families across the country are struggling to afford groceries. The costs of eggs, milk, bread, baby formula, and fresh produce keep rising while giant grocery chains and corporate executives rake in record profits. Some of the grocery stores are now using surveillance technology and digital labels to squeeze even more money out of working people. It is shameful that corporations would raise prices on products that they know families need to survive. For me, this is corporate greed, plain and simple.”

“DTE was hit with more than $100 million in penalties for violating the Clean Air Act by a Federal judge. Within the same week, they got a $240 million increase in rates, and DTE Energy customers are already paying some of the highest rates in the country for some of the least reliable services. Corporate polluters like DTE treat breaking environmental laws as just the cost of doing business. Polluting our communities must be as bad for business as it is for our health.”

“DTE Energy has a monopoly in my district. It is the primary source of utilities for gas and electricity for my residents. This is why it is critical and important for me to introduce the Make DTE Pay Act. It would substantially increase monetary penalties on utilities like DTE Energy when they seek customer rate increases within two preceding or following Clean Air Act violations. Mr. Speaker, you might ask: Why? It is because DTE was hit with more than $100 million in penalties for violating the Clean Air Act by a Federal judge.”

“This week's vote is about immediately ending all U.S. participation in the Israeli Government's violent assault against the people of Lebanon. Over 4,200 people have been massacred since the start of the Israeli apartheid regime's brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion in Lebanon, and nearly 1,000 additional people have already been killed since Congress refused to pass the Lebanon War Powers Resolution earlier this month. That is 1,000 additional people in just 25 days.”

“After the 2008 financial crisis, Congress tasked our financial regulators with implementing a rule that bans compensation packages for bank executives that incentivize inappropriate risk-taking. But more than a decade later, a decade and a half later, we are still waiting for this rule to be finalized. As the 2023 banking failure demonstrates--we just had one in 2023-- improper incentives continue to pose a threat to our financial system. That is why I am proud to be able to introduce the Fostering Accountability in Remuneration Fund Act.”

No President--not any of them--should have the power to spy on our private communication or information, especially not the current occupant of the White House.”
