What to Watch

FISA Section 702 — lapsed June 12, 2026. The last extension (S. 4465, Pub. L. 119-87) carried Section 702 only through June 12, 2026. After the House rejected a further short-term extension (H.R. 9238) on June 11, no reauthorization was in place and the authority lapsed on June 12 — the first Section 702 lapse since 2008. Collection under certifications approved before the lapse continues until they expire; a longer-term reauthorization remains unresolved.

FY2027 appropriations — deadline September 30, 2026. Current government funding expires when the fiscal year ends. Based on historical patterns, a continuing resolution or omnibus will be required. The appropriations process typically intensifies in July and August.
